What a red eero light means and how to get back online
⚡ Fast fix
- Red means offline—eero isn’t reaching the internet.
- All of them red? Start with the modem and gateway connection.
- Only one red? Check that eero’s placement and connection to the mesh.
- Still staring at red? Get 24/7 expert support for the tech you rely on.
A red light on the router is never the color anyone hopes to see. Fortunately, eero® is being fairly direct about the problem: a solid red LED means that eero isn’t connected to the internet.
Asurion Experts help people troubleshoot home networks every day. Before rebooting everything in sight, look at whether one eero is red or the whole network is.
One red eero and an all-red network tell different stories
If every eero is red, think upstream: internet service, modem or ONT, gateway eero, Ethernet cable, or the WAN connection.
If only one eero is red while the others are online, eero recommends focusing more on that unit’s placement and mesh connection. Moving it closer to another eero can be a useful test.
If they’re all red, start at the modem
Check that the gateway eero is firmly connected to the modem or ONT by Ethernet, then restart the internet connection in order:
- Unplug the modem or ONT for at least 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and wait for the internet connection to return.
- Restart the gateway eero.
- Check the Ethernet cable between the modem and gateway.
- Give the eero time to return to a solid white light.
If the modem itself never comes back online, check for an ISP outage before changing eero settings.
If only one is red, move it closer
A mesh point that has drifted too far from the rest of the network—or has too much wall, metal, or other interference in the way—can lose its connection even while the gateway stays fine.
Move the red eero closer to another working eero and power-cycle it. If it comes online in the new spot, placement was the clue.
Check what the eero app sees
Open the eero app and look at the Home screen. The app can identify an offline network and provide connection troubleshooting based on what it can see from the gateway.
If the network was working normally before an outage or modem restart, our guide to restarting your eero network walks through a clean reboot without erasing settings.
Restart before you reach for Reset
A restart is very different from resetting the eero. For a normal connection failure, rebooting the modem and network is the safer first move.
Don’t hold the reset button just because the LED is red. Resetting can remove an eero from the network depending on the reset type, which turns an internet outage into a setup project nobody asked for.

FAQ
What does a red light on eero mean?
A solid red LED means the eero is not connected to the internet.
Why are all my eeros red?
That points more toward the internet connection, modem or ONT, gateway, or ISP than one isolated mesh point.
Why is only one eero red?
If the rest of the network is online, check that eero’s placement and mesh connection first.
What color should eero be when it’s working?
A solid white LED indicates that eero is connected to the internet.
Should I factory reset an eero with a red light?
Not first. Check the modem, gateway cable, internet service, placement, and a normal restart before resetting anything.
