Google Pixel 9a rumors: price, release date, and features

If you're thinking about getting a new Android phone this year, you might be wondering when the next Pixel is coming. The Google Pixel 9a is expected to be the more affordable version of Google's latest phones—and it could be right around the corner.

At Asurion, we help you get the most out of your tech, whether you're setting up a new phone or trying to decide if it's time to upgrade. Here's what we know so far about the Pixel 9a.

When will the Google Pixel 9a be released?

Google hasn’t officially confirmed the Pixel 9a yet, but it’s likely to be announced in the fall of 2025, around the same time as the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro. Last year, the Pixel 8a was released in May, but Google may be shifting the timing to match its flagship lineup.

How much will the Pixel 9a cost?

The Pixel 9a is expected to cost around $499, just like the Pixel 8a. That would keep it as one of the best budget Android phones available, offering solid features at a lower price than premium devices like the Galaxy S24 or iPhone 15.

What features might the Pixel 9a have?

While nothing is confirmed yet, here are some of the rumored features:

• Tensor G3 chip. Google may use the same processor found in the Pixel 8 series, giving the 9a better performance and AI-powered tools.
• Updated camera. The Pixel A series usually carries over camera upgrades from earlier flagship models, so expect improved low-light photos and video stabilization.
• Brighter display. The screen could be brighter than the 8a’s, which makes it easier to see in sunlight.
• Longer battery life. Thanks to software improvements, the Pixel 9a might last even longer on a single charge.
• More AI tools. Expect features like Magic Eraser and Best Take to return, along with new ones powered by Google’s AI.

Should you wait for the Pixel 9a?

If you’re using an older Pixel or another midrange Android phone, waiting for the 9a might be worth it—especially if you want solid performance and a great camera at a lower price. But if you need a phone now, the Pixel 8a is still a great choice.
