How to cast iPhone, Android phone to your TV

Phone cast to TV

Fast fix

If you’re wondering how to stream from phone to TV, here are the easiest options:

  1. iPhone: Use AirPlay to mirror your screen or stream video directly to an Apple TV® or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.
  2. Android: Tap the Cast icon in supported apps like YouTube® or Netflix® to send video to your smart TV.
  3. Streaming devices: Use Roku®, Chromecast™, or Amazon Fire TV™ Stick to cast or mirror your phone screen.

Smartphones are great for quick videos, but when it comes to movie night or sharing photos, a bigger screen makes all the difference. If you’ve searched for how to stream from phone to TV, you’re in the right place. With a few simple steps, you can mirror your iPhone® or Android™ device to your TV for a better viewing experience.

At Asurion, we help you make the most of your tech—whether you’re extending your phone’s battery life or learning surprising things your smart speaker can do. Here’s our guide on how to stream from phone to TV using built-in tools or streaming devices.

How to stream from iPhone to a TV

The easiest way to connect your iPhone to a TV is with AirPlay. This feature works with Apple TV and AirPlay 2-enabled smart TVs.

  1. Connect your iPhone and TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open Control Center.
    • On iPhones with Face ID®, swipe down from the top-right corner.
    • On iPhones with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom.
  3. Tap Screen Mirroring.
  4. Choose your Apple TV or compatible smart TV from the list.
  5. Follow any on-screen prompts. You may need to enter a passcode.

To stop mirroring, open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, then select Stop Mirroring.

How to stream from Android phone to a TV

Most Android devices let you stream or cast content directly to your TV:

  1. Make sure your phone and smart TV are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open a video app (like Netflix, Hulu®, or YouTube).
  3. Tap the Cast icon.
  4. Select your TV from the list.

Your video will now play on the TV. Note: Not all Android models have built-in casting.

How to stream from phone to TV using a streaming device

If your TV isn’t smart or doesn’t support casting, you can use a media player like Roku, Chromecast, or Amazon Fire TV Stick.

Stream from phone to Roku

  1. Connect Roku and your phone to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. On Roku, go to Settings > System > Screen Mirroring and turn it on.
  3. Open a streaming app on your phone, start a video, and tap the Cast icon.
  4. Select your Roku device.

Stream from phone to Chromecast

  1. Connect Chromecast and your phone to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open a streaming app on your phone and play a video.
  3. Tap the Cast icon and select your Chromecast.

Stream from Android phone to Amazon Fire TV Stick

Only Android supports screen mirroring with Fire TV (iPhones do not).

  1. On Fire TV, hold the Home button on your remote, then select Mirroring.
  2. On your Android phone, go to Settings > Connected devices > Cast.
  3. Choose your Fire TV Stick from the list. If it doesn’t appear, enable Wireless display.

Stream from Samsung phone to Fire Stick

  1. Make sure your Samsung® phone and Fire TV Stick are on the same Wi-Fi.
  2. Open the Quick Settings menu, swipe left, and tap Smart View.
  3. Select your Fire TV Stick from the list.

FAQ

How do I stream from phone to TV without Wi-Fi?

You can use an HDMI adapter (like Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter for iPhone) to connect your phone directly to your TV with a cable.

Why can’t I see the Cast icon on my phone?

Check that your TV or streaming device and phone are on the same Wi-Fi network. Also, make sure the app you’re using supports casting.

Can I stream from iPhone to TV without Apple TV?

Yes—if your smart TV supports AirPlay 2. If not, you can use a Chromecast or Roku to stream from your iPhone.

How do I mirror my phone screen instead of just casting a video?

On iPhone, use Screen Mirroring in Control Center. On Android, use Cast screen in Settings or Smart View on Samsung phones.
