How to reset your ASUS Flip tablet

When it’s glitchy, frozen, or just not acting right—this gets it back on track

Asus Flip tablet factory reset

💡 Need to know

  • Know your operating system first. ASUS Flip devices can run either Windows 11 or ChromeOS, and the reset steps are different.
  • Back up important files. A factory reset can remove apps, settings, and personal data.
  • Choose the right reset. Some reset options keep your files, while others wipe everything.
  • Selling or giving it away? A full factory reset is the safest option.

Sometimes an ASUS Flip® just needs a fresh start.

Maybe it's become frustratingly slow. Maybe it's glitching, freezing, or refusing to cooperate. Or maybe you're getting it ready for a new owner and want to wipe it clean. Whatever the reason, we’re here to help. Asurion Experts have the know-how to keep all of your tech running as it should (just ask our nearly 300 million customers).

Before you reset it, there's one important thing to know: not all ASUS Flip devices run the same operating system. Some use Windows™ 11, while others run ChromeOS—and the reset process is different for each.

If you see the Windows Start menu, you're in the Windows camp. If you sign in with a Google account and use ChromeOS, jump to the Chromebook instructions below.

Should you reset or troubleshoot first?

A reset can solve many problems, but it's usually worth trying simpler fixes first.

If your ASUS Flip is:

  • Running slowly
  • Freezing occasionally
  • Having app issues

A restart, software update, or storage cleanup may solve the problem without wiping anything.

A factory reset makes the most sense when:

  • Performance problems won't go away
  • Malware is suspected
  • You're selling or giving away the device
  • You want a completely fresh start

Either route you take, be sure to back up your data beforehand. That way, you won't lose critical files.

Don’t ditch it, fix it

No matter the issue, our experts can repair your devices fast. Make an appointment or visit your local uBreakiFix by Asurion today.

How to reset an ASUS Flip running Windows 11

Windows gives you a couple of reset options depending on how drastic you want to be.

Reset Windows while keeping your files

If you're troubleshooting performance issues but want to keep your personal files:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select System > Recovery.
  3. Under Recovery options, select Reset PC.
  4. Choose Keep my files.
  5. Follow the prompts to complete the reset.

This removes apps and settings but keeps your personal files intact.

Perform a full factory reset

If you're selling the device or want a completely clean start:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select System > Recovery.
  3. Choose Reset PC.
  4. Select Remove everything.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

This erases your files, apps, and settings and restores Windows to a fresh state.

How to reset an ASUS Chromebook Flip running ChromeOS

ChromeOS uses a process called Powerwash. Before you begin, make sure anything important is backed up to Google Drive or another storage location.

Perform a Powerwash

  1. Select the time in the bottom-right corner.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Select Advanced > Reset settings.
  4. Choose Powerwash > Reset.
  5. Follow the prompts to restart and reset the Chromebook.

Once complete, you'll sign in again with your Google account and set the device up like new.

What if your ASUS Flip won't start?

Sometimes you can't access the settings menu at all.

Windows 11 recovery reset

If Windows won't load:

  1. Turn the device on and off three times in a row.
  2. Windows should enter Automatic Repair.
  3. Select Advanced options > Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  4. Choose either Keep my files or Remove everything.

Chromebook recovery reset

If ChromeOS won't start:

  1. Turn off the Chromebook.
  2. Press and hold Esc + Refresh, then press the Power button.
  3. Release the keys when the recovery screen appears.
  4. Follow the prompts to recover ChromeOS.

If you've tried these steps and still need a little help, we're right around the corner. Schedule a repair at the nearest uBreakiFix® by Asurion store and our certified experts can get your device back up and running as soon as the same day.

FAQ

How do I know if my ASUS Flip runs Windows or ChromeOS?

If it uses the Windows Start menu, it's running Windows. If it uses ChromeOS and a Google account, it's a Chromebook.

Will resetting my ASUS Flip delete everything?

It depends on the option you choose. Windows offers a Keep my files option, while ChromeOS Powerwash removes local data.

What is Powerwash on an ASUS Chromebook Flip?

Powerwash is ChromeOS's factory reset feature. It removes local data, settings, and accounts from the device.

How long does it take to reset an ASUS Flip?

Most resets take between 20 minutes and an hour, depending on the device and reset option selected.

Should I reset my ASUS Flip if it's running slowly?

Not necessarily. Try updates, storage cleanup, and a restart first. A factory reset is usually best when simpler fixes haven't solved the problem. Still need help? Get a free ASUS diagnostic to figure out what's going on.
