How to connect Oculus Quest to a TV

💡 Need to know

  • What casting means: Casting mirrors what you see in the Meta Quest™ headset directly onto your TV in real time.
  • Cast in seconds: Use the built-in sharing menu on your Meta Quest headset to start casting to a TV in about 30 seconds.
  • Same Wi-Fi required: Your Meta Quest headset and TV must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network so they can detect each other.
  • Chromecast™ support: If your TV has Chromecast built in, or you use a Chromecast device, you're ready to stream wirelessly.

The only thing more fun than experiencing virtual reality via your very own headset is sharing the experience with others. Whether you're showing off the latest game, introducing your family to your virtual world, or educating your skeptical grandparents on modern technology, knowing how to easily connect your Oculus Quest™ to a TV is essential.

Both the Meta Quest® 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest 3S support screencasting, and the whole process takes under a minute once you know the steps. You can cast directly from the headset, a smartphone app, or a web browser.

At Asurion, our experts don't just teach you how to fix your tech; we show you how to get the most out of it every step of the way. Whether you want to use your Oculus to watch movies in VR or need to know how to cast your phone to your TV, we have step-by-step guides to cover all of your technology needs.

Cast directly from your Quest headset

Casting directly from your headset is the fastest, most direct way to get your Quest on your big screen without installing any external apps or devices.

These steps work for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest 3S:

  1. Put your headset on and press the Menu button on the right controller to open the Universal Menu.
  2. Select Sharing, then choose Cast.
  3. Choose your TV or Chromecast device from the menu and select Start.

Your TV should begin displaying what you're seeing in the headset within a few seconds.

If your TV doesn't appear as an option, make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network and that your Chromecast device is powered on and connected.

👉 Keep in mind: A small delay between what you see in the headset and what appears on the TV is normal while casting.

Use the Meta Horizon app to share your screen

If you'd rather start casting from your phone, the Meta Horizon™ app provides another option. This is especially useful if someone else is wearing the headset or you don't want to put it on first.

  1. Open the Meta Horizon app on your phone and sign in to your Meta account.
  2. Tap the Cast icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select your headset as the source device.
  4. Select your TV or Chromecast device as the destination.
  5. Tap Start.

Your TV will begin mirroring the headset view.

Connecting to a Roku™ TV or non-smart TV

Roku TVs don't natively support Meta Quest casting the same way Chromecast devices do, so you may need a workaround.

Option 1: Cast to a browser

You can cast your headset to a supported web browser on a computer.

  1. Open a browser and go to Meta's casting page.
  2. Sign in with your Meta account.
  3. Start casting from the Quest sharing menu.

Once connected, you can display the browser on a larger screen if desired.

Option 2: Use a Chromecast device

If your TV has an available HDMI port, connecting a Chromecast device is often the easiest solution.

Once the Chromecast is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Quest headset, it should appear as a casting destination in the headset's Sharing menu.

Your TV isn't showing up?

If your TV, Chromecast, or casting device doesn't appear in the list:

  • Make sure both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Restart the Meta Quest headset.
  • Restart the TV or Chromecast device.
  • Confirm the Meta Horizon app is updated.
  • Disconnect and reconnect the headset to Wi-Fi.

Many casting problems are resolved with a quick restart and network refresh.

If you've tried all of the above and your headset still isn't cooperating, it may be time to reset an Oculus headset and start fresh.

Stay covered. Stay connected.

FAQ

Why won't my Meta Quest connect to my TV?

The most common causes are different Wi-Fi networks, outdated software, or a casting device that isn't configured properly.

Can I cast a Meta Quest to a Roku TV?

Not directly in most cases. Using a Chromecast device or browser-based casting is often the easiest workaround.

Is there a delay when casting Quest to a TV?

Yes. A slight delay is normal and expected when casting VR content.

Can I cast without Wi-Fi?

Generally no. Most Quest casting methods require the headset and casting device to be connected to the same network.

Does casting affect game performance?

Usually not, though some users may notice minor performance differences depending on the game and network conditions.
