Try turning the light on manually

Open the Ring app, select the Floodlight Cam, and use the Lights control to switch the light on.

If it lights up, the hardware can respond. Leave the breaker alone for now and concentrate on what’s supposed to trigger the light automatically.

If the light won’t turn on manually either, skip ahead to the power and connection checks below.

If manual control works, check the motion settings

Open Device Settings > Light Settings for the camera. Make sure Motion-Activated Lights is turned on, then review Motion Zones for Lights and Light Sensitivity.

The light zones and camera motion settings don’t necessarily cover the same area. If someone can trigger a recording while walking through a part of the yard that isn’t active for the lights, the camera may capture them without ever switching the floodlights on. Test again after dark. Ring’s motion-activated camera lights are designed to respond at night, so a sunny afternoon isn’t a very useful test of whether the automation is working.

Check the schedules too

A light schedule can override what you expect the floodlight to do at certain times. Look under Light Settings for any schedules you’ve created, especially one that keeps the lights off during part of the evening.

Linked Ring devices can affect light behavior too. If another camera, doorbell, or automation is tied to the Floodlight Cam, review those connections while you’re there. The goal is to figure out what the light has actually been told to do—not what everyone remembers setting up six months ago.

If the light won’t turn on manually either

Now it makes sense to look beyond motion settings.

Check three things:

• Does the Ring app show the camera as online?
• Does Live View open normally?
• Does the camera have reliable power?

If Live View works but the light remains completely unresponsive, power-cycle the camera. For a wired Floodlight Cam, switch its circuit off at the breaker, wait about 10 seconds, then restore power. Give the device time to reconnect before testing the light again.

Reset only after the easier fixes fail

A factory reset is worth considering when the Floodlight Cam is powered, online, and still won’t respond to light controls after a power cycle and settings check.

It will put the camera back into setup mode, so be ready to connect it to the Ring app again.

1. Find the camera’s Setup button.
2. Press and hold it for 20 seconds.
3. Release the button.
4. Wait for the camera to enter setup mode.
5. Open the Ring app and follow the prompts to set the device up again.

If the floodlights still won’t respond afterward while the rest of the camera works, the issue may be with the lighting hardware rather than an app setting.
