What to do when Ring Live View stops working

Here's how to get started.
Check whether the Ring device is online
Open the Ring™ app and look at the status for the camera or doorbell.

If the device shows online, don’t reset it. Test Live View somewhere else first.
Try Live View on another device
Open the same Ring camera from another phone, tablet, or Ring.com. If the video loads there, that’s a useful answer: the camera and home connection are working, so the original phone or app deserves the attention.
From there, try:
- Force closing and reopening the Ring app.
- Installing any available Ring app update.
- Restarting the phone.
- Signing out and back in only if the simpler app refreshes don’t help.
That’s a lot less disruptive than changing camera settings that are already working elsewhere.
Check the Wi-Fi connection if Live View fails everywhere
When Ring cam Live View is not showing on any device, look at the Ring device’s network connection under Device Health.
A weak or unstable connection can make live video stall even when the camera appears online. Restart the Ring device if the app offers that option, then restart the modem and router and test again.

Check the Live View preview setting
Sometimes Live View itself works, but tapping the preview tile doesn’t open it the way you expect. In the Ring app, go to Devices > your device > Device Settings > Video Settings and review Tap Camera Preview for Live View.
If opening Live View manually works normally, this is a settings issue—not a camera failure.
Make sure you’re troubleshooting the right feature
Live View and recorded event playback are different.
- If you can see the camera live but can’t watch an earlier event, the live connection is probably fine.

Reset only if the connection problem follows the camera
A factory reset makes sense much later—after the device is online, Live View fails on multiple phones or browsers, the app is current, Wi-Fi is stable, and normal reboots haven’t helped.
If you reach that point, use the reset instructions for the exact Ring model. Reset steps vary by camera and doorbell, so don’t use a button sequence meant for a different device.
