Verizon hotspot not working? How to fix it

Your Verizon mobile hotspot is a convenient way to share your phone’s internet with other devices. But if it suddenly stops working, it can be frustrating—especially if you need to get online quickly.

Here’s why your Verizon hotspot may not be working and how to fix it.

Why is my Verizon hotspot not working?

Common causes include:

  • Hotspot not enabled. Make sure your hotspot is turned on in your Settings.
  • Data plan limits. Some Verizon plans have hotspot data caps.
  • Poor signal. Weak Verizon coverage affects hotspot performance.
  • Software issues. Outdated software or bugs can interfere.
  • Connection problems. Devices may not be pairing correctly.

How to fix Verizon hotspot not working

General fixes

  1. Restart your phone and connected devices. A reboot often clears temporary glitches.
  2. Turn on the hotspot.
    • On iPhone: Go to Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot > Allow Others to Join.
    • On Android: Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering > Mobile Hotspot. 3.
  3. Check your Verizon plan. Log in to the My Verizon app or website to confirm your plan includes hotspot data and that you haven’t reached your limit.
  4. Check your signal strength. If your phone only has one or two bars, move to an area with better Verizon coverage.
  5. Reset your hotspot password.
    • On iPhone: Go to Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot > Wi-Fi Password.
    • On Android: Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering > Mobile Hotspot > Configure.
  6. Update your software.
    • On iPhone: Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
