How to change your caller ID name on Verizon

When you make a call, your caller ID name is what appears on the other person’s phone. If you’re a Verizon customer, you can change the name displayed with your number—but only in certain situations.

Here’s how caller ID works on Verizon and how to update your display name.

How Verizon caller ID works

  • Wireless caller ID: By default, Verizon displays the name tied to your account (for example, the account owner’s first and last name).
  • Incoming calls: You can see the caller’s name if the number is saved in your contacts or if you use services like Verizon Call Filter with enhanced caller ID.
  • Outgoing calls: The name others see depends on your Verizon account settings and whether their carrier supports CNAM (caller name) lookup.

You can update your outgoing caller ID name in your Verizon account.

Using the My Verizon website

  1. Go to the My Verizon website and sign in.
  2. From the menu, select Account > My Devices.
  3. Choose the line you want to update.
  4. Select Caller ID or Share Name ID.
  5. Enter the new name you’d like to display.
  6. Save your changes.

Using the My Verizon app

  1. Open the My Verizon app and sign in.
  2. Tap Account > Manage Device.
  3. Select the phone line you want to edit.
  4. Tap Caller ID or Share Name ID.
  5. Update your name and save.

Changes usually take a few minutes but may take up to 24 hours to update across all networks.

Things to know about Verizon caller ID

  • Length limits: Caller ID names are limited to a certain number of characters.
  • One name per line: Each line can only have one display name.
  • Not guaranteed everywhere: Some carriers may not show caller ID names, even if you’ve updated it.
  • Business accounts: Verizon Business customers may have different caller ID name options through their account manager.
