Verizon Call Filter: how to block spam and robocalls

Tired of getting constant spam calls or robocalls? Verizon offers a solution called Verizon Call Filter. This app helps identify, block, and report unwanted calls so you can stay focused on the ones that matter.

Here’s how Verizon Call Filter works and how to set it up on your phone.

What is Verizon Call Filter?

Verizon Call Filter is an app that automatically screens calls for spam and robocalls. Its free version is included in most Verizon plans, and a premium upgrade with more advanced features is available. If you’re enrolled in an eligible device protection plan, you have access to the premium version.

With Verizon Call Filter, you can:

  • Get alerts for suspected spam or fraud calls.
  • Automatically block high-risk robocalls.
  • Send unwanted numbers to voicemail.
  • Report spam numbers to Verizon.
  • Access enhanced Caller ID with the premium plan.

How to set up Verizon Call Filter

  1. Download the Verizon Call Filter app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Open the app and agree to the terms.
  3. Turn on spam protection and choose your blocking preferences.
  4. Customize your settings—decide if you want high-risk calls blocked automatically or sent to voicemail.

Once enabled, Verizon Call Filter works in the background to protect you from unwanted calls.

How to block numbers manually without Call Filter

If you’d like to block a specific number in addition to Call Filter:

On iPhone

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap Recents.
  3. Tap the info (i) icon next to the number.
  4. Select Block this Caller.

On Android

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Go to Recents or Call History.
  3. Press and hold the number you want to block.
  4. Select Block/report spam.

Other tips to reduce spam calls

  • Avoid answering calls from unknown numbers.
  • Register your number with the National Do Not Call Registry.
  • Be cautious about sharing your phone number online.
  • Report spam calls directly in the Verizon Call Filter app.
