How to block a number on Verizon

Whether it’s spam, robocalls, or just someone you don’t want to hear from, Verizon gives you several ways to block a phone number. You can use your phone’s built-in tools, block numbers through your Verizon account, or use Verizon’s Call Filter app for extra protection.

Here’s how to block a number on Verizon, step by step.

How to block a number on Verizon using your phone

On iPhone

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Tap Recents.
  3. Find the number you want to block and tap the info (i) icon next to it.
  4. Tap Block this Caller, then confirm.

On Android

Steps vary by device, but generally:

  1. Open the Phone app.
  2. Go to Recents or Call History.
  3. Press and hold the number you want to block.
  4. Select Block/report spam.

Once blocked, that number won’t be able to call or text you.

How to block a number on Verizon through My Verizon

You can also block numbers directly through your Verizon account:

  1. Sign in to the My Verizon website or open the My Verizon app.
  2. Go to Account > My Plan > Blocks.
  3. Select Block Calls & Messages.
  4. Enter the number you want to block and confirm.

This method is especially useful if you want to block numbers across all devices on the same Verizon account.

Use Verizon Call Filter for extra protection

For spam calls and robocalls, blocking one number at a time may not be enough. That’s where Verizon Call Filter comes in.

  • Free version: Blocks or warns you about high-risk spam calls.
  • Premium version: Adds enhanced Caller ID, a personalized block list, and spam lookup tools. It is available to you if you’re enrolled in an eligible device protection plan.

Once enabled, Call Filter works in the background to detect and stop unwanted calls before they ring your phone. You can customize whether those calls get blocked completely or sent to voicemail.

This makes Call Filter a great companion to manual number blocking—it helps catch unknown or hidden spam numbers that you can’t predict.
